On the wild north-east coast of Gozo, in the limits of Qala just beyond Daħlet Qorrot bay, Tas-Simar is a striking natural arch — a slender bridge of weathered rock the sea has carved clean through the cliff, with clear turquoise water swirling in the inlet below. It's a hidden, unmarked spot: park at Daħlet Qorrot (the little bay lined with boathouses cut into the limestone) and follow the rocky coastline south for roughly a kilometre, picking your way over open rock until the arch appears above a secluded cove. On calm days the sheltered inlet is a gorgeous place for a swim or a snorkel. The rock is rugged and can be slippery near the water, and the arch itself is a real cliff edge with big drops — unbeatable for photos, but take genuine care and don't trust the span in strong wind. No facilities and no shade, so bring water, grippy shoes and everything you'll need.
